Are you looking for a new job? You cannot be sure that the perfect opportunity is tailored to your capabilities. You cannot influence the recruiter’s mood or change company policies to suit you. But there are many things you can influence. You have absolute control over everything you do during your research, from processing your resume and cover letter, through communicating with a potential employer to professional conduct at the interview.
To maximize your chances of getting a dream quote, you have to take the best step forward. Every part of what you do today, including searching for a job, submitting your resume, dressing for an interview, sending a thank you letter or your presentation on social media, is important.
1. Do: Use LinkedIn for your search
This social network was created directly to find a new job. So it is very important to be able to use it effectively. Create a profile on it (if you don’t already have one), update your data and expand your address book with all your work contacts.
2. Do: Use Online Job Search Engines
These servers will allow all users to search for any offers that appear in the market. Often they work with large companies, which put their offers on them as a priority, so thanks to them you can get great opportunities first. In addition, searching by category and specialty, which you focus on, will make your work a lot easier and, most importantly, save you time.
3. Do: Always write an original cover letter
Yes, it is easier to write a cover letter once and then use it for multiple job applications. However, all too often, these letters end up on hiring managers’ tables, and it can easily happen that the same cover letter appears on many applications. Avoid this and take the opportunity to write an original cover letter that is customized by the job. This will show the potential employer that you are highly motivated to get the job.
4. Do: dress appropriately for the interview
When you are invited for a face-to-face interview, your clothing is a very important visual clue to a potential employer. Therefore, definitely avoid casual clothes that are more suitable for the weekend than for the office. At the same time, too much makeup or strong perfume isn’t the best option either.
5. Don’t: Avoid Mistakes
What should you never do on a call? What to prepare for when looking for work during a pandemic? Review these mistakes and errors that may affect your judgment and take the time to prepare. Definitely worth it!
6. Do the following: Send a thank you email
Whether you feel good or bad about the interview, always thank the hiring manager or potential employer for the time they gave you. The speed of the task certainly counts in this case, because it is easier to stay in the memory of the interlocutor. Therefore, plan to send a thank you letter within 24 hours of the meeting.
7. Do: Be careful when looking for work during working hours
If you are still employed by another company, consider whether it makes sense to use company email or a computer to find a new job. It is better (and more ethical) to do market research in your spare time and primarily from private email.
8. Don’t: Watch out for social media
While you may feel that your current supervisor is not interested in your Facebook or Instagram account at all, the opposite may be true. So, if you’re looking for a job while still working for another company, think about the message you’re sending out to the world on your social media profile.
